My Story

I have been practicing massage therapy for 10 years, but before that, I was pursuing an education in nursing. I’ve always known that I wanted to do something where I was helping or caring for people in some fashion, but I wasn’t sure what that “thing” was. The medical industry seemed to have too much red tape and too many limitations on how you can care for someone. After some time and a lot of thought, I found my way to massage therapy, and the way it resonated with me was beyond anything else I had experienced at that point.

I took to the material immediately, and I began to grow into the person that I am today because of it. I attended WellSpring School of Allied Health in Kansas City, MO. After some moving around, gaining experience, and doing some soul searching, I opened up my first practice in Kansas in 2018.

At the time, I was also coaching CrossFit, which allowed me a unique opportunity to work with a lot of great athletes, but also with many people dealing with chronic and acute conditions that were preventing them from living pain-free lives. I learned so much about the body, kinesiology, injury prevention and rehabilitation, pain management, and stress management. It’s also important for me to mention that I am a queer male of color with Mexican and Indigenous origins. Being from Kansas, this meant that I got to have beautiful interactions with people who didn’t look like me or live in similar cultures as me.

Why does this matter? Because massage therapy is an incredibly vulnerable practice for both the client and the practitioner. As a client, you engage in vulnerability by undressing and getting on the table of someone you don’t know, in hopes that they will help you in some way. For the practitioner, you’re allowing a complete stranger into your safe space for the purpose of helping them, with no idea whether you’ll be able to or not. Both of these realities require trust, and all of this is why massage therapy has been the greatest teacher of my life.

I have watched my clients’ kids grow up, I’ve laughed with my clients, we’ve cried together, I’ve been there for them in chaotic moments, and they have, in turn, supported me in some of the hardest moments of my life. Massage therapy is more than a transactional practice for me; it is a deep and real form of connection where I use my knowledge and intuition to guide people toward their health and wellness goals, which include the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of their being.

My work began as a venture into aiding the physical person but has evolved into understanding the mental and emotional person and how those present in physical ways. I am biased in saying this, but I truly feel that massage therapy is one of the greatest practices in the “healing” arts, and it pairs incredibly well with all other forms of holistic wellness. I don’t believe that any practice or modality is a “cure-all,” but each practice—such as chiropractic care, acupuncture, physical therapy, and psychotherapy—is essential in aiding the whole person as they make their way through their wellness journey.

If any of this sounds intriguing to you, I hope you’ll feel safe enough to reach out and ask any questions you might have. Let’s find out what resonance feels like for you.
